  • Purpose and Scope

    Responsible for connecting community stakeholders, and school services to families and students that have been identified by the Choice Neighborhood Initiative Grant (CNI). The Student and Community Resource Associate works collaboratively with community partners, parents and schools to develop and implement effective family, community engagement and communication strategies at the school level. The position will ensure the academic and social success of students and families as outlined in the CNI Grant.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Creates and develops effective methods of referring students and families for service.
    2. Serves as an advocate for students and families and as a liaison between families and appropriate agencies which can provide services to those in need of additional assistance.

    3. Seeks and secures available resources within the community that will meet the needs of students and families.
    4. Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives.
    5. Monitors parent participation and identifies barriers to parent participation such as low income, disabilities, limited literacy, language, cultural, or ethnic considerations.
    6. Supports schools to build their capacity to develop and foster productive partnerships that facilitate positive family, schools and community relationships with the CNI grant initiatives. 
    7. Identifies at risk students for the purpose of providing support and referrals to ensure student progress and ongoing involvement of family members in the educational process.
    8. Responsible for timely collection and management of a variety of data which supports community outreach and engagement that is required for the following E2S, CNI grant, and community partners as well as SCS.
    9.  Communicates with parents on behalf of school (e.g. testing, attendance and homework issues, available programs/services, completing paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that an ongoing partnership between the home and school is formed.
    10. Assists students, staff, teachers, parents and community members (e.g. applications for services, transporting parents/students, interpreting technical information, etc.) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information and other services required by parents or teachers.
    11. Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
    12. Performs other duties as assigned or directed.




    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or other related fields or equivalent, for a total education/experience of 4 years. Proven successful experience working in an urban school and community setting preferred.

    • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to swiftly and accurately understand complex data and perform analysis
    • Skill in developing data-supported solutions and using fact-based logic; ability to translate complex analysis in easy-to-understand manner and present to a broad audience
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrate high levels of cultural proficiency and self-awareness and the ability to build relationships and maintain strong community collaborations within and across diverse communities
    • Ability to work at times with minimal direction and sound judgement.
    • Ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.

    Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

    Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
