  • Purpose and Scope

    Performs strategic compensation initiatives for the district to include resolving unusually complex problems and providing solutions that are highly innovative. The incumbent delivers high quality work and continuous process improvement recommendations.  The Senior Compensation Advisor serves as a senior resource for the compensation department.

     

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Serves as lead on large scale projects such as designing, implementing, and maintaining pay plans, or departmental reorganizations utilizing a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
    2. Develops financial models that forecast the cost of compensation plans over time.
    3. Participates in the design and modification of the job and pay classification system.
    4. Participates in the administration of specialized pay plans, cost of living increases or union pay plans.
    5. Develops efficient and accurate systems to determine compensation for each employee in new systems and assists with developing policies, processes and procedures to maintain compensation administration for the job classification(s).
    6. Advises Talent Management on such compensation related issues as new hire analysis, salary offers, promotions and/or transfers.
    7. Provides expertise and guidance on all compensation related topics such as job analysis, salary studies, career pathways, etc. to define issues, identify options and implement creative and equitable solutions to address customer concerns and/or issues.
    8. Serves as a resource to management on compensation issues, trends, and/or best practices; performs analysis and recommends changes and/or improvements.
    9. Collaborates with the Performance Management team to determine the appropriate timeline to implement pay programs.
    10. Performs job analyses and documents job content to assist managers with the development or revision of job functions.
    11. Prepares, revises and edits job descriptions and job templates for content, format and consistency.
    12. Evaluates and determines the exemption status of individual jobs for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
    13. Stays abreast of current and potential laws and regulations governing compensation administration to ensure legal compliance.
    14. Conducts and/or participates in custom and published salary surveys for reliable and valid benchmarked data.
    15. Serves as back-up in the absence of the Senior Compensation Manager in addressing compensation procedural issues and/or technical issues.
    16. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources or a closely related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of compensation experience to include job analysis, salary reviews, market studies, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and compensation experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.  OR a combination of equivalent education and/or paid, exempt level, directly relevant compensation experience for a total of nine (9) years.   Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field or equivalent is preferred.  Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Professional Human Resources (PHR), Six Sigma and/or International Professional Management Association (IPMA-CP) certifications preferred.

     

     

    Degree Equivalency Formula:

    Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

    Master’s Degree = 6 years plus required years of experience.

    • Ability to tackle the operational challenges of the merged school district in a complex, changing political and educational environment
    • Ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning
    • Demonstrated ability in execution and project management skills, including ability to balance the big picture with detailed steps
    • Knowledge of the current compensation and career pathways systems in place in the district, and strategic compensation and career pathway systems implemented in other districts, businesses and governmental organizations
    • Ability to build and manage financial models including projections of teacher’s evaluation scores, COLAs, and changing demographics

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers

    Unavoidable Hazards:  The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

     

    Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
