  • Purpose and Scope

    The acquisition of the 3030 Jackson Avenue Bayer property requires additional Plant Manager staff. Boiler/Chiller Systems in this location differs from those housed in other district locations requiring Business Operations to seek Plant Managers with a current 1st Class Steam Engineer License from Shelby County Code Enforcement department, thus the need for an additional Plant Manager position.

    Additionally, during boiler operation, Shelby County Schools may need to man the building 24 x 7 requiring coverage over multiple shifts seven days per week.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Maintains appropriate equipment and preventative maintenance schedules; initiates repair work as needed.
    2. Maintains accurate and complete records of work order request and completion; approves invoices for payment.
    3. Coordinates and/or performs special duties as assigned.
    4. Responds to emergency work requests after working hours and on weekends as required.
    5. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Requires High School diploma or GED; four (4) years of experience in building maintenance OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience totaling four (4) years. Also requires Class D Driver’s License and Current 1" Class Steam Engineer License from Shelby County Code Enforcement department.  An additional two (2) years boiler operator experience preferred.

     

    Degree Equivalency Formula:

    Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

    Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included. 

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used in the proper use and care of equipment
    • Knowledge of the safe and efficient procedures for operating central heating and cooling systems
    • Ability to make minor adjustments and service repairs to the equipment
    • Ability to train, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of employees
    • Ability to maintain records and prepare routine reports
    • Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform all required tasks
    • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.

     

    Unavoidable Hazards:  The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

     

    Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
