  • Purpose and Scope

    Performs accounting functions in the maintenance of accounting and internal control systems for the assigned areas using established accounting procedures and policies. Assesses and performs analysis on data, and prepares data to facilitate Accounting & Reporting functions. Responsibilities require understanding of both theory and practice.  

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Coordinates the daily financial activities of assigned staff in the division or department within the District.2. Provides instruction, training and leadership of subordinate clerical staff; offers advice and assistance as needed.3. Prepares and manages assigned budgets; makes journal entries and budget adjustments as required; balances accounts; prepares financial reports as requested.4. Calculates, receives, receipts and posts various fees, fines and other payments; balances receipts daily; prepares deposits; processes refunds as appropriate.5. Prepares billing invoices for various accounts; balances weekly reports; prepares payroll documentation, monitors and records attendance as requested. 6. Processes travel reimbursements requests; enters, verifies for accuracy, updates and retrieves computer data; prepares spreadsheets; and ensures all financial paperwork includes proper signatures and coding as required.7. Audits financial records by examining, verifying and reviewing accounts, invoices, bills and vouchers; researches accounting problems and discrepancies in records; makes or initiates corrections as necessary.8. Compiles data for and prepares periodic and special reports as required by the department, school, District and other agencies; assists with various financial analyses as requested.9. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from personnel and employees regarding areas of responsibility.10. Greets office visitors and provides professional, courteous customer service; assists customers or obtains information for customers as requested; explains financial policies and procedures; refers customers to other personnel or offices as appropriate.11. Prepares, types, copies, files, transmits and/or mails various records, reports, notices, forms, correspondence.12. Performs other general clerical work as required, including but not limited to establishing and maintaining files, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes and e-mails, answering the telephone, processing mail, maintaining lists and logs, ordering office supplies.13. Attends staff, committee and other meetings as required. Attends training, meetings, seminars and/or workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.14. Recommends and reviews expenditures; provides fiscal data for preparation of the annual budget.15. Collaborates with manager and other District staff to develop short- and long-range plans for assigned program or functional area.16. Researches and explores feasibility of implementing new methods, technologies or programs. 17. Develops, schedules, implements, monitors and evaluates all programs, projects and operations in area of responsibility. 18. Researches, compiles data for, and prepares various statistical, administrative and/or financial reports as required. 19. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or other related area or equivalent, for a total education/experience of 4 years.

    Good analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to swiftly and accurately understand complex data and perform analysis;
    Skill in developing data-supported solutions and using fact-based logic; ability to translate difficult analysis in easy-to-understand manner and present to a broad audience;
    Good written and verbal communication skills;
    Ability to tackle the operational challenges of the merged school district in a complex, changing political and educational environment;
    Ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning.
