  • Purpose and Scope

    The Innovation Zone (iZone) is a group of district-led turnaround schools instituted to improve student achievement in Shelby County Schools? lowest performing schools and move students from the bottom five percent of student achievement in Tennessee to the top twenty-five percent in five years.The data analyst is a recognized expert in the instructional support and instructional leadership implementation of data analytics, providing system-wide direction and expertise. He or she will manage the impact of data analytics on iZone instructional support and advise school leadership teams on their use of data.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Conducts long-term planning for the design and delivery of data systems that informs best practices.
    2. Designs and executes central-level professional development aligned with the Innovation Zone's vision, mission, and goals, as it relates to the department's use of data and data analysis.
    3. Provides quality staff development at a high level by assisting elementary, middle, and high schools' instructional support teams in analyzing formative assessment data using analytic tools to align supports to student needs based on strand analysis.
    4. Collaborates with department leadership teams, school leadership and key personnel to support key processes to review attendance patterns, analyze behavior indicators, state-wide assessment results, formative assessment event data, student grade distribution data and student growth data.
    5. Converts data to inform instructional support and school instructional leadership practice.
    6. Aggregates, disaggregates, cross references, and puts into categories individual, group, and sub-groups of student test data, instructional support and professional development data so that central and school-level instructional support can be adjusted and targeted accordingly.
    7. Supervises all school data (enrollment, attendance, behavior, assessment, and grades) by using data analytics tool, Tableau.
    8. Works collaboratively with the iZone leadership team to formulate targets and goals for productivity and provides input on system-wide support programs for school leadership teams.
    9. Serves as coach and mentor to school instructional support teams as it relates to data analysis.
    10. Manage the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and data correspondence; provides data for research-based projects and compiles reports, as needed.
    11. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required. Three (3) years related experience required. Seven (7) years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Master's degree in a related field preferred. Administration and Supervision license preferred.

     

    Degree Equivalency Formula:

    Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

    Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.

    • Ability to relate to, and feel comfortable with, people at all levels and to be able to make and maintain good working relationships

    • Ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.

    Unavoidable Hazards:  The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

    Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
