  • Purpose and Scope

    Plans and implements athletic program to provide students within the Shelby County School District, so that student-athletes can have a safe enjoyable athletic experience. Responsible for the coordinating athletic efforts, serves as a liaison for the District, and maintains a cooperative working relationships with athletic staff, schools, administrators, parents, businesses, and organizations.  

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Provides assistance and support to the Athletic Division and Manager in providing oversight, monitoring, compliance, and professional development of the district's Athletic Program.
    2. Ensures compliance for administrative/support personnel and volunteer staff.
    3. Assists in the monitoring, advising and enforcing district, state and national rules, and regulations regarding athletics to school administrators, athletic directors, coaches, parents/student-athletes and the community at large.
    4. Provides data analysis and information reviews, and resources concerning athletic contests scheduling, professional development, legal issues and risk management, financial development, facilities and maintenance management, transportation, assignment of officials, tournament administration and health & safety requirements for student-athletes.
    5. Assists with negotiations for space contracts and books event space.
    6. Arranges food beverages, order supplies and audiovisual equipment, make travel arrangements.
    7. Gathers required information on each project to achieve quality event production and planning.
    8. Conducts research, make visits, and find resources to help staff make decisions about event possibilities.
    9. Creates and revise room layouts for each event.
    10. Proposes new ideas to improve the event planning and implementations process.
    11. Serves as liaison with vendors on event-related matters.
    12. Assists with managing on-site production and clean-up for events as necessary.
    13. Prepares media documents, communications, materials, notebooks, packages, gift bags, registration lists, seating cards, etc.
    14. Conducts After Action Reviews and Close out all events as required.
    15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager and/or Director.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in related field of study, plus an additional two (2) years related experience, for a total education/experience of six (6) years.

     

    Degree Equivalency Formula:

    Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

    Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included. 

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Proficient in research, interpreting and analyzing diverse data and possess the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals.
    • Should possess excellent writing, computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power point), and data management skills.
    • Excellent human relations skills and ability to establish and maintain successful cooperative working relationship with appropriate school communities, and school-based and central office staffs
    • Ability to adhere to District policy and guidelines
    • Strong organizational and management skills

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.

     

    Unavoidable Hazards:  The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

     

    Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
