SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide leadership in and perform highly skilled maintenance and repair work on District heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment. The position is responsible for training and providing work direction of assigned mechanics/technicians, monitoring and servicing equipment, ensuring prompt response to work orders, diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions, and maintaining accurate work records. The position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provides leadership and work direction in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning (HVAC) and other refrigeration systems in District facilities.
  2. Gathers and analyzes equipment failure information; researches manufacturers' manuals for technical guidance; makes decisions for the most efficient methods of accomplishing requested repairs.
  3. Assists in reviewing all requests for contracted repair work; makes recommendations as appropriate.
  4. Repairs or replaces system/equipment parts; tests for and repairs leaks; recharges systems.
  5. Reads and interprets mechanical system prints and wiring schematics related to HVAC equipment.
  6. Maintains equipment, tools and vehicles as issued; maintains equipment and tools inventory records.
  7. Uses established work order system to monitor the use and cost of materials and supplies to ensure adherence to budget restrictions.
  8. Estimates costs for repair and new installation projects.
  9. Calibrates control components to ensure peak operations efficiency; assists energy management staff with control problems as requested.
  10. Performs other maintenance and repair duties as designated by supervisor.
  11. Keeps records of work requested, work completed, hours and materials used and other necessary management information.
  12. Assists in training and provides leadership of assistants or trainees as assigned.
  13. Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all work orders and assignments.
  14. Attends training and meetings as required to exchange information and to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires High School diploma or GED; plus twenty (20) hours of training in pneumatic or electronic controls; and four (4) years of related experience. Requires valid certification in the removal of CFCs in accordance with the EPA standard; Preferred plumbing, electrical, mechanical or gas journeyman’s license. Must possess and produce certificates of completion in related studies.

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

 

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience.  Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.

Additional Job Details

This position will work in Zone 2 and Zone 4.
