SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform technical work in the removal or containment of asbestos-containing materials in District buildings. The position is responsible for providing training and leadership of subordinate technicians, performing facility inspections to detect asbestos, performing specialized work in asbestos containment or removal and/or working with contractors as assigned, assisting with materials disposal in accordance with regulations, and performing related work as required. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.
1. Provides training and leadership of subordinate technicians; provides advice and assistance as needed.
2. Conducts site inspections and investigations as assigned, and report findings to supervisor.
3. Assists in developing project scope of work, cost estimates, specifications and schedules.
4. Assists in reviewing plans and specifications prepared by others for compliance with established codes, ordinances and standards.
5. Provides technical advice and information within field of expertise to supervisor, co-workers, other professionals and officials as requested.
6. Performs specialized work in the removal and/or containment of asbestos-containing materials in flooring, walls, ceilings, duct work and other locations; disposes of removed materials in a manner consistent with state and federal regulations.
7. Monitors and assists with the work of engineers and contractors to ensure all work is in accordance with plans, specifications and regulations.
8. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
9. Performs related facility maintenance work as assigned.
10. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete work records.
11. Attends meetings, training and workshops as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
A high school diploma or GED is required along with a valid state driver's license and three (3) years of related experience.
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
