Purpose and Scope

OVERVIEW

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

 

Works under the general direction of the Director-Internal Communications to assist in maintaining an effective internal communications program for Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) and keeping employees informed of the District programs, issues and accomplishments.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Writes and/or edits news and featured articles, that includes but not limited to brochures, fliers and editorial content for the District’s website and social media outlets, for publications designed to inform and educate the District’s employees.
  1. Represents the Internal Communications team in planning meetings and contributes to the process of developing schedules for fulfilling request.
  1. Meets with representatives from various departments, divisions and schools to discuss communication strategies and develops an effective internal communications plan that promotes upcoming events and informs staff of available opportunities.
  1. Works closely with the MSCS external communications team providing information on stories, events or matters happening within the District that would be of interest to news media and shine a positive light on the District.
  1. Performs general administrative office work to include maintaining internal communications calendar, preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving data, copying and filing documents, monitoring the communications inbox, and responding to inquiries.
  1. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Electronic and Digital Media Communication, Journalism or a related field; Plus, two (2) years of related professional experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
