Purpose and Scope

Responsible for directing staff and the efficient and effective operation of the assigned curricular area, so that students may derive the greatest academic and personal benefit for the learning experience.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Supports teachers through the development and/or refinement of curriculum and pacing guides. Ensures that district curriculum is aligned to district goals, state, and TNCore State Standards, including identifying skill gaps between grades, thereby ensuring a seamless progression from K through grade 12.
  2. Guides and supports the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, and supplemental resources, needed to support curriculum implementation.
  3. Monitors implementation of a new curriculum to support instructional program in schools. Collaborates with district offices and departments to develop and monitor implementation of integrated curricular units and assessments.
  4. Supports the development and implementation of research-based and innovative initiatives with to raise student achievement. Develops tools and procedures to be used by the district, regional, and school administrators to ensure the fidelity of implementation of all district initiatives in the assigned curriculum area.
  5. Provides leadership in the design of professional development activities for principals, teachers, and support staff to promote innovative teaching approaches and techniques. Provides support and guidance to schools and parents.
  6. Interprets data to determine appropriate professional development opportunities for schools and collaborates with curriculum staff to ensure that professional learning opportunities are aligned with data-determined needs.
  7. Acts as a district liaison for the content area to ESL Director and other education agencies, post-secondary institutions, and associations and agencies as assigned.
  8. Supervises direct reports, as assigned by ESL Director, so as to effectively recruit, train, motivate, delegate, monitor and evaluate their activities, including hiring,  and disciplinary decisions. Provide staff with resources needed to successfully perform work.
  9. Works collaboratively with managers and management representatives in Curriculum & Instruction to achieve a system-wide result. Formulate local targets, goals, and activities that are in synch with and support the broader goals and objectives of the organization.  
  10. Executes the responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards. Use personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
  11. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to assigned service, activities, and operations; provides for appropriate research and compiles reports, as needed. Reviews best practices, recent literature, and research studies and reports. Communicates findings with staff and coordinates changes or modifications to improve existing programs. Applies information/results of research and studies to the instructional program.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related area plus an additional 5 years related experience, or equivalent for a total education/experience of 9 years. Tennessee teaching license with Administrative Certification and ESL endorsement 301 or 490 required. A minimum of four years of successful experience as a classroom teacher.  Proficient in the use of technology to include video presentation, word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.   (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

Degree Equivalency Formula:

 

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
