Purpose and Scope

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining athletic areas, fields, and facilities, assisting at athletic functions, and maintaining equipment for Memphis-Shelby County Schools. Responsibilities may also include preparing fields/courts for competition/practice, picking up trash, grassing cutting, marking off fields for competition/practice, cleaning storage rooms and offices, operating power-driven equipment, truck driving,

Essential Job Functions

This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.

  1. Prepares facilities for athletic seasons. Set up, breakdown, moving & storing athletic equipment for athletic events i.e. track, football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country etc.
  2. May attend sports functions and act as recorder, timer, scorer, or official.
  3. Performs routine maintenance and minor repair activities to equipment and fields.
  4. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Watches for potential equipment/field safety hazards and reports issues to supervisor.
  5. Updates supervisor on equipment/supply needs in a timely fashion.
  6. Opens and closes athletic facilities. Checks athletic amenities i.e. PA system, score controller, scoreboard etc.
  7. Monitors/responds to operational issues at athletic venues during competitions/practices and departmental grounds vehicles.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED Certificate and six months related training and experience. Participation in a variety of sports, including knowledge of athletics’ rules and regulations with some background in grounds maintenance is Preferred. Requires a valid driver's license with a good driving record. First Aid and CPR training are desirable. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
