Purpose and Scope

The Communications Advisor will be responsible for promoting the District's branding via events, publications and external media outlets. The Communications Advisor also assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of the District’s communications strategy.

  • Ability to effectively work with Senior leaders
  1. Provides support to senior leaders by engaging with their respective functions to drive employee engagement.
  2. Develops and suggests promotional ideas for the District using notification content/articles to raise awareness of key corporate topics and supports management; works with media outlets to ensure accuracy of message.
  3. Supports company-wide meetings including logistics (virtual), content and other coordination tactics. Sets the vision, tone, and desired outcomes for specified projects and invest internal team members and external partners in the work.
  4. Manages initiatives towards execution through effective planning and delegation; anticipate potential areas of challenge/opportunity and proactively adjust course as needed; some examples of effective communication would be to access the geography and/or diversity of the audience in order to create information for a broad audience.
  5. Provides managers with communication strategies to set the tone for external communications materials.
  6. Builds creative assets to support employee communications efforts - infographics, PowerPoint presentations, etc. 
  7. Edits and fact-checks content to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  8. Utilizes expert knowledge of style guides to ensure content is well-written and error-free.
  9. Offers suggestions to improve the clarity and flow of written materials.
  10. Fact-check statements, corrects typos and grammatical errors, and identifies unclear or unnecessary passages for revision.
  11. Oversees project budgets to ensure operational excellence and maximum allocation of resources.
  12. Produces organizational project management from start to finish including communication memos, issue reports, and presentations.
  13. Designs and facilitates strategic and impactful convenings (meetings, conferences, etc.) in order to affect change, strengthen on a national scale.
  14. Supports various external functions of the Communications Department including social media, District website, and broadcast stations as needed; advocates on behalf of the District for all external needs.
  15. Represents business communications and supports best practice execution, including launching and maintaining Communications projects.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications plus 5 years related experience, or equivalent, for a total education/experience of 9 years. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).
