Purpose and Scope

The Nutrition Training Supervisor is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering training programs for school nutrition staff to ensure compliance with USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements and local wellness policies. This position ensures staff are properly trained in areas such as food safety, customer service, meal pattern compliance, nutrition standards, and kitchen operations, supporting high-quality food service across all district schools.  They will also supervise a training team that will assist in the forementioned.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for nutrition staff, including onboarding, annual compliance, food safety, and professional development.
  2. Train cafeteria staff and managers on USDA meal pattern requirements, portion control, offer vs. serve (OVS), and nutrition best practices.
  3. Conduct regular site visits to assess training effectiveness and reinforce correct procedures.
  4. Maintain training records and staff development logs in accordance with USDA Professional Standards requirements.
  5. Develop training materials, manuals, SOPs, checklists, and visual aids tailored to school food service environments.
  6. Provide hands-on coaching in kitchen operations, including food preparation, equipment use, and meal presentation.
  7. Assist in planning menus and promoting nutrition education activities that align with district wellness goals.
  8. Collaborate with school administrators, nurses, and parents to support special dietary accommodation through staff training.
  9. Support preparation for health inspections and state or federal audits by ensuring staff knowledge and documentation accuracy.
  10. Stay updated on changes to federal, state, and local regulations and adapt training materials accordingly.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, or a related field; Plus, three (3) years’ experience in school nutrition or institutional food service; OR, an equivalent combination of related education and experience that totals seven (7) years. Experience as a supervisor and a trainer is required. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
