Purpose and Scope

The IT Systems Architect will be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing virtualized infrastructures ensuring seamless operations across Windows server environments, networking, and enterprise platforms. This role will participate in annual planning, re-platforming, redesign, and governance, while setting and driving standards across Infrastructure Platforms.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Develop and deliver strategic technology solutions aligned with the district’s long-term IT strategy and business needs, including architectural diagrams, documentation, research briefs, and executive presentations.
  2. Provide indirect leadership for solution ideation, architecture design, and implementation efforts across multiple IT initiatives.
  3. Design high-level architecture and solution roadmaps to ensure high availability, performance, scalability, and sustainability of IT systems.
  4. Assess current-state IT architectures and define target-state designs for district-wide technology portfolios.
  5. Formulate and refine IT policies and procedures to drive operational efficiency and standardization.
  6. Prepare and present monthly key performance indicators (KPIs) and system/network performance reports to senior leadership.
  7. Continuously monitor system metrics and trends to identify performance issues and recommend improvements.
  8. Serve as a strategic technical leader for Microsoft Windows architecture and related enterprise technologies.
  9. Evaluate and manage technical risks, weighing risk versus reward to inform project and design decisions.
  10. Analyze data, trends, and operational obstacles to develop and present solution-oriented recommendations.
  11. Provide enterprise-level technical leadership for systems architecture across the organization.
  12. Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts to streamline IT operations and enforce security standards.
  13. Support the resolution of complex technical issues, providing guidance and escalation support to IT teams.
  14. Establish and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring rapid service restoration during outages.
  15. Conduct system performance monitoring and capacity planning to proactively align infrastructure with organizational growth.
  16. Partners with cross-functional teams and external vendors to architect and implement infrastructure solutions supporting business, application, and security goals.
  17. Lead regular audits, system tests, and security assessments to identify and resolve vulnerabilities and performance gaps.
  18. Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance the district’s IT capabilities. 
  19. Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, Plus five (5) years of experience in the Information Technology field; OR, an equivalent combination of related education and experience that totals nine (9) years. Certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Azure, or other relevant technologies are preferred. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
