Purpose and Scope

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

Responsible for the implementation of the goals of Project STAND by supporting career readiness and academic achievement with the department of Alternative Education. This position will advise processes for Project STAND at HOPE Academy and G. W. Carver College and Career Academy.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Works collaboratively with other professionals and management representatives in Alternative Education's Project STAND. Formulate academic targets, goals and activities in synch with and support the broader goals and objectives of the grant.
  2. Executes responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards. Use personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
  3. Advises, assists, and adheres to all pertinent federal, state, local and Shelby County Schools (SCS) policies, procedures, laws, regulations, codes and ordinances that pertain to student safety and program reliability.
  4. Conducts weekly visits to HOPE Academy to monitor and evaluate tutorial practices with Key Train National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Identify achievement towards students obtaining their NCRC while enrolled at HOPE Academy. 
  5. Supports, advises and facilitates transition services of students with HOPE Academy and G.W. Carver College and Career Academy.
  6. Recruits, maintains and provides case management for students eligible for Project STAND.
  7. Serves as a liaison between post-secondary education options, community resources, juvenile court, and wrap around services.
  8. Secures, facilitates and supports summer employment options for Project STAND Students. Monitor summer job sites.
  9. Advises and manages the assignments and pairing of mentors with Project STAND in collaboration with Juvenile Court, Faith Based Organizations and other stakeholders.
  10. Manages and supports student's behavior and character intervention plans to support data outcomes for the grant project.
  11. Advises and facilitates career readiness certification goals of Project STAND students. This includes developing work based learning sites.
  12. Trains employees on SCS and department policy and rules. Support tutors to develop new skills and potential in students.  Encourages improvements in quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or Criminal Justice Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university, plus an additional four (4) years of experience in a relevant area for a total education/experience of eight (8) years.  An additional two (2) years of experience as a teacher, counselor, principal or district leader is preferred.

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience.  Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
