Purpose and Scope

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

Responsible for directing a staff and the efficient and effective operation of a region of the Exceptional Children department of the Academic Office.

  1. Work collaboratively with other professionals and management representatives in the Exceptional Children/Academic Office to achieve a system-wide result. Formulate local targets, goals, and activities that are in synch with and support the broader goals and objectives of the organization.
  2. Execute the responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards. Use personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
  3. Assist in the development of a departmental budget; present, and defend program budget requirements as it applies to the Exceptional Children/Academic Office; oversee and submit program expenditures and prepares financial forms and reports.
  4. Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to assigned service, activities, and operations; provides for appropriate research and compiles reports, as needed.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education plus an additional 5 years related experience, or equivalent, for a total education/experience of 9 years to include a minimum of 4 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher. Tennessee teaching license with endorsement in administration/supervision. Proficient in the use of technology to include video presentation, word processing, database spreadsheet applications.

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

 

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included. 

 

Additional Job Details

A Tennessee special education teaching and administration/supervision licenses are required for this position. Effective verbal and written communication skills are needed to deal with unusually complex problems and provide solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious, achieving quality and work process improvements. Knowledge of IDEA is needed to assist in monitoring compliance, teachers, student plans/records, service delivery, system reports, equipment, supplies, and program goals. Planning and conducting learning activities, and facilitating training sessions with parents, teachers and other professionals will occur as required.
