Purpose and Scope

Works in an instructional support capacity to provide professional learning, technical guidance and best practice resources and materials in the area of Response to Instruction & Intervention (RTI2); liaises between Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, and the Division of Exceptional Children and Health Services for compliance and due process issues related to students suspected of having impairments or disabilities; and ensures adherence to state and district RTI2 implementation.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Supports and monitors implementation of the Memphis-Shelby County Schools’ RTI2 model and curriculum for increasing student achievement, as aligned with the state’s RTI2 framework.
  2. Collaborate with Assistant Superintendent to provide grade band support as it relates to implementation of the RTI2 framework.
  3. Analyzes assessment data and advises each school’s RTI2 Data Team relative to identifying the specific needs, placement, and progress monitoring of struggling students through the RTI2model.
  4. Leads whole and small group professional development efforts that support the enhancement of teacher use of classroom-based, developmentally appropriate intervention instruction and strategies for individual children and groups of children to enhance acquisition of social/emotional and cognitive skills.
  5. Works collaboratively with school-based Data Team and Instructional Leadership Team to address and problem-solve issues or questions about implementing the RTI2 model, with an understanding that each school will have different needs based on the student population.
  6. Demonstrates an understanding on the topics of dyslexia and characteristics of dyslexia and the student support plans that outline classroom support.
  7. Ensure implementation of the ILPD plans for students displaying characteristics of dyslexia.
  8. Utilizes understanding of how to select and analyze data related to individual students, groups of students and classrooms to positively impact achievement and behavior.
  9. Develops and facilitates professional learning sessions on topics in alignment with state and federal guidelines.
  10. Provides training and ongoing support for data systems that provide critical student achievement data and information (ie. i-Ready, aimsweb, EdPlan, PowerBi, etc.).
  11. Coordinates RTI2 program components, support needs, and materials for the purpose of meeting student needs while complying with district and state program guidelines.
  12. Presents information to school, zone, district and community groups for the purpose of promoting the RTI2 program, gaining feedback, and complying with established internal controls.
  13. Maintains records and ensures compliance with federal, state and local guidelines and reporting requirements.
  14. Stay abreast of regulatory changes and other relevant updates related to academic interventions by attending local, regional, and staff professional development and prepare written reports and/or presentations of learning.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of related experience related to the area of assignment; OR an equivalent combination of related education and/or experience totaling nine (9) years.  Valid State of Tennessee teacher licensure certification required. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

 

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
