Purpose and Scope

The position of Concrete & Asphalt Crewperson is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, curbs, parking lots, sidewalks, sinkholes, and various concrete repairs on district properties.  The position often works in conjunction with other construction professionals and machinery operators to ensure the safe and efficient completion of asphalt & concrete projects.

Essential Job Functions

This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.

  1. Assist in the construction and maintenance of repair of roads, curbs, parking lots, sidewalks, sinkholes, various concrete repairs on district properties.
  2. Operate a variety of heavy machinery such as backhoes, skid-steer loaders, bulldozers, and road graders. 
  3. Set up traffic control devices and barricades to ensure safety in the work zone. 
  4. Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling, raking, and spreading asphalt and concrete. This may include, but not limited to, clearing earth, removing debris and brush, and other related tasks to successfully perform this role. 
  5. Repair potholes, cracks, and other road surface damages.
  6. Inspect and clean tools and equipment.
  7. Ensure the proper functioning of equipment and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
  8. Load, unload, and transport construction materials.
  9. Respond to emergencies such as snow removal, flood control, and accident cleanup.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires High School diploma or GED. Previous related experience in the construction field and the ability to operate heavy equipment is preferred(PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
