Purpose and Scope

Works under the Compliance Manager to support consistent practices in schools that lead to operational and fiscal compliance within established laws, policies, and expectations.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provides exemplary customer service and support for all the schools by handling escalated issues utilizing the rules and procedures established by law in the Tennessee Internal School Uniform Accounting Policy Manual and monitoring implementation of SCS established best practices.  Makes school visits to resolve issues as necessary.
  2. Provides administrative support, oversight, and guidance for programs and initiatives implemented through the Department of School Compliance.
  3. Facilitates the development and framework of the strategies, tools, and professional development (course curriculum) for the school secretaries to be compliant with state, federal and district policies at each school (160).
  4. Provides support for ongoing evaluation of initiatives and strategies; identifying areas in need of improvement, planning, implementing and evaluating improvement plans.
  5. Works with School Compliance Manager with each school School Based Budget including training, onboarding, and year round professional development
  6. Demonstrates high levels of financial proficiency and self-awareness with the ability to build relationships with internal departments
  7. Conducts research on current trends, topics and laws, share new learning with team members and develop/recommend improvements to the work.
  8. Creates presentations, newsletters, marketing materials, and other written documents to communicate with varied audiences.
  9. Develops and applies solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity and competency of the Department of School Compliance.
  10. Interviews, tests, selects, sets/adjusts pay and schedules work hours.  Distributes work according to level and abilities.  Trains employees on SCS and department policy and rules.  Coaches to develop new skills and potential.  Encourages improvements in quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
  11. Implements quality controls for school financial operations including preparing a Quality Control Manual for the School Compliance staff.  Collaborates with risk management, audit, finance, payroll, and Principals at all schools, to develop approaches for addressing emerging issues in financial compliance to proactively implement and adjust accounting and compliance procedures, and to achieve quality, control and work process improvements.  Evaluates and tests new guides, procedures, and internal control techniques.
  12. Monitors the School Compliance department.  Assists the Manager of School Compliance in building their capacity and preparedness for strategic deployment to schools with operational and financial challenges and to ensure streamlined operations and maximized support for school-based staff.  Deploys School Compliance staff to all schools with fiscal or compliance challenges to provide support and assistance
  13. Consolidates and analyzes data, for instances of fraud, waste and abuse in all schools’ financial statements and other documents
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in related field; Plus four (4) years related experience in related field; or an equivalent combination or related education and experience and experience totaling eight (8) years(PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
