Purpose and Scope

The position of Director – Health Services provides oversight responsibility for health and health education for students and staff. Implements strategic planning and leadership that coordinates and integrates services for students and staff to maximize health.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Contributes to setting the district's overall health strategies to approach chronic health conditions for the identified groups of students.
  2. Supervises staff establishing standards and effectively selects, trains, motivates, delegates, monitors and evaluates performance to ensure targets and goals are met.
  3. Leads implementation of community health programs that are related to school aged children.
  4. Ensures that health related nursing services for exceptional children are delivered in a manner that meets the needs of students, families, schools, and the community.
  5. Evaluates program health services for effectiveness and efficiency and makes program modifications as necessary.
  6. Visits schools to assess the effectiveness of health-related programs, shares information, acquires input from staff, and provides feedback.
  7. Promotes an understanding of students with chronic health conditions; collaborates with school personnel; facilitates appropriate health services training for principals, teachers and staff members.
  8. Provides support and training for parents so that they are knowledgeable of school health principles and state guidelines.
  9. Conducts outreach opportunities and develops new programs as appropriate to ensure professional develop is available to staff.
  10. Directs the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to assigned service, activities, and operations; provides for appropriate research and compiles reports, as needed.
  11. Ensures department/district compliance for established health guidelines and student compliance.
  12. Executes the responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards.
  13. Uses personal judgment and available health initiatives to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in the school environment.
  14. Develops, presents, and defends program budget requirements; oversees and approves program expenditures and prepares financial forms and reports when indicated.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Health Services Administration, Counseling or other related field plus an additional 7 years related experience for a total education/experience of 11 years.  (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
