Purpose and Scope

Delivers at a high level of competency in maintaining standards of excellence in the assigned curricular areas such as Social Studies, Math, Science, World Language, Fine Arts or ELA, so that students may derive the greatest academic and personal benefit for the learning experience. This involves in working on unusually complex problems and provides solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious, achieving quality and work process improvement.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provides leadership in developing, monitoring, revising, and implementing appropriate curriculum to meet the identified needs of the system. is viewed as expert within the field.
  2. Serves as an instructional leader in the assigned curricular area developing curriculum, curricular materials, curricular tools, and instructional resources that meet the identified needs of the system and address the rigor of the standards. This requires a high degree of knowledge and a deep understanding of the standards, including the depth of knowledge which they require.
  3. Participates in learning walks in classrooms throughout the district to provide support and guidance around implementation of curricular materials and resources developed and to ensure fidelity of implementation.
  4. Works collaboratively with the team to disaggregate student data, identify learning gaps, and develop curricular solutions that will close identified gaps.
  5. Works collaboratively with the Department of Professional Learning & Support, school leaders, and Assistant Superintendents to plan and conduct content specific professional development activities around curricular implementation that is aligned with district initiatives and data determined needs.
  6. Serves as liaison between the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, district leaders, and teachers on K-12 curriculum and instructional matters, and making recommendations and providing support as needed.
  7. Assists teachers and leaders as needed or requested with curriculum implementation, instruction, and assessment techniques to increase student mastery of state standards; advances teachers' knowledge of standards including understanding teaching strategies and assessment development techniques based on data driven practices.
  8. Communicates instructional best practices with district and school leadership to facilitate maximum teacher effectiveness.
  9. Provides assistance to all professional school-based personal and/or community representatives regarding the assigned curricular area and works collaboratively with other professionals, and management in the development of effective instruction and assessment techniques which are research based and achieve a system-wide result. May lead a team in the effort.
  10. Works collaboratively with district, school, and teacher leaders to develop and implement long-term literacy plans for the district.
  11. Deals with unusually complex problems and provides solutions that are highly innovative, achieving quality and work process improvements. Ensures that the work group's goals and activities are in sync with and support the broader goals and objectives of the district; and that the execution of responsibilities is in accordance with lawful and ethical standards. Uses personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
  12. Reviews assessment data and assists with development of long-term content specific plans for specific grade bands as well as the district. Works collaboratively with teachers, leaders, district personnel, and focus groups to accomplish this goal.
  13. Reviews best practices, recent literature, and research studies and reports. Communicates findings with staff and coordinates changes or modifications to improve existing programs. Applies information/results of research and studies to the instructional program.
  14. Works collaboratively with colleagues to establish program goals and identify corresponding textbooks and materials that will support program goals.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

     

 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Education or a related area plus an additional  five (5) years related experience, or equivalent for a total education/experience of  nine (9) years. A minimum of four years of successful experience as a classroom teacher. Proficient in the use of technology to include video presentation, word processing, database and spreadsheet applications. Tennessee teaching license with Administrative Certification preferred.  (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
