Purpose and Scope

Facilitates at a high level of competency the implementation of the LEAs Section 504/ADA policy, and ensures consistency in the application of procedures related to 504 eligibility, identification, and placement of students. This position ensures that each eligible student is provided Special Education related services, and/or reasonable accommodations required to participate and obtain school programming, including extracurricular activities to the extent appropriate to the students disability, without discrimination or cost to the student or his/her family.  

Essential Job Functions

  1. Expedites the implementation of the LEA Section 504/ADA policy and monitors and ensures compliance in the implementation of consistent policies and procedures in Section 504 identification, eligibility, and placement to ensure that each identified eligible student with disabilities is provided, without discrimination or cost to the student or family, special education and related aids and services, and/or reasonable accommodations that are needed to provide the student an equal opportunity to participate in and obtain the benefits of school programming, including extracurricular activities, to the extent appropriate to the students abilities.
  2. Ensures services and protections for students determined to have disabilities pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 are distinct from those services and protections applicable to eligible students with disabilities enrolled in, or seeking enrollment in, special education programs governed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004).
  3. Facilitates the implementation of the LEA's Section 504/ADA policy with fidelity.
  4. Ensures consistency and compliance in the implementation of Section 504 policies and procedures relevant to the identification, eligibility, and placement of students.
  5. Informs the Director of Student Services and the 504 Coordinator on issues related to Section 504 compliance.
  6. Provides on-going training, support, and monitoring of the implementation of Section 504 procedures and Easy 504 (digital compliance system) for staff in Shelby County Schools, and Charter Schools.
  7. Facilitates the provision of FAPE and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
  8. Serves as a resource and provide support to LEA administrators, building-level teams and community members regarding Section 504/ADA.
  9. Coordinates the Section 504 grievance process for Memphis Shelby County Schools.
  10. Serves as the liaison between the LEA and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) in handling OCR complaints, provide resolutions and implement action plans.
  11. Ensures that Memphis Shelby County School is in compliance with state and federal laws surrounding Section 504.
  12. Works collaborative with multiple departments and stakeholders including LEA administrators and staff, Directors, School Board members, and Charter Schools.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business or related field Plus  five (5) years of related administrative or supervisory experience in related field,OR an equivalent combination or related  education/experience totaling nine (9) years. Licensed administrator preferred.  (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

 

 

Degree Equivalency Formula: Bachelor's Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master's Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience.

Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included.
